Needy North End Detroit Families Receive Turkey’s for Thanksgiving

During our performance on November 7, 2019 at Oak City Grille in Royal Oak, Jake Tobias & I took requests from our audience in exchange for donations. We played every song that was requested and our audience we amazingly generous with their tips. We matched those donations $1 for $1 and were able to raise over $250 to purchase turkey’s to give to needy families in the North End of Detroit affiliated with the Metropolitain United Methodist Church.

Melissa Behring Metropolitation Church Donation Thanksgiving

On Sunday, November 24, we are excited to present the Metropolitain United Methodist Church with a check to help atleast 20 families have a turkey on their table during the holidays this year.

“Our Thanksgiving story 2019… a few weeks ago, we challenged the audience at Oak City Grille that we would double the money in our tip jar and use it to feed Detroit families that wouldn’t otherwise have a Thanksgiving dinner. As a result, we ended up with adequate funds to provide 19 families with turkeys, stuffing potatoes and veggies! Thanks to Lucy at Royal Oak Kroger, Eric at Meijer on 8 Mile, Lay Minister Sherman Louis at Metropolitan United Methodist Church, and of course our Oak City Grille gang for making this possible. Unbelievable!” -Jake Tobias
