#grateful

As you know, I’ve been doing a bit of “soul” searching. As a result, I’ve found a developed a wonderful network of friends around Metro Detroit that have come to my musical rescue.

Both Jake Tobias & I have been warmly welcomed into the Metropolitain United Methodist Church community on Woodward Avenue in Detroit through friends like jazz singer, Meri Slaven and pianist/singer Marvin Jones. Every Tuesday, MUMC hosts the 5 O’Clock Rush Community Concert series from 5:30pm – 6:30 in Kresge Hall. This event offers a community outreach for all Detroiters with free snacks, free (excellent) music, free safe and secure parking and beverages. The music is a wide variety from jazz to soul to pop. On the first Tuesday of each month, all artists, musicians, poets and performers are welcome to come to the open jam.

I am also happy to be a part of the music education community in my hometown of Royal Oak, Michigan by teaching private lessons to select voice performance students at the amazing Detroit School of Rock and Pop. The Gittinger family, Jason & Sherry and their daughters Jazzy and Sammy, have rolled out the red carpet for me and provided a positive environment for Metro-Detroit’s premier musicians to develop and craft the talents of future live musicians. I cannot say enough great things about our DSRP team of teachers, the facilities they provide and our amazing students and bands. So very proud to be a part of the Detroit School of Rock and Pop.

I’ve also gathered a fabulous group of musicians, who either have helped fill my calendar with performances or played with me at my shows. So grateful to old and new friends like Jake Tobias (guitar/bass/vocals), Neil Donato (piano), Tim O’Neil (piano), Chris Codish (piano) Brent Nagy (Drums), Clint Sabon (drums), Jason Gittinger (drums) Rocco Popielarski (bass), Takashi Iio (bass), Jimmy Smith (trumpet), Alan Day (saxophone), Stefan Kukurugya (piano), Bang Glenn (drums), Meri Slaven (vocals), Marvin Jones (piano/vocals), Sherry Gittinger (vocals), Carissa Knoles (vocals/guitar), the Vance Brothers Jeff & Jay (vocals/guitar), Jimmy Acquier (vocals/guitar), Tomas Lopez (guitar) and so many others that I’m forgetting to name here.

These wonderful Detroit people really helped me feel a kind of warmth I haven’t felt since I left my career at Princess Cruises three years ago now.
